Updated: Dec 4, 2023

On your marks, ready, set, but please wait a minute, where are we going to? I do not see the finish line. Like the example, a race without a finish line has no end, so why start? Wait, is that the rationale for procrastinators? Maybe they do not see the finish line; that is their end goal. Goal setting is the theme on WONIRADIO-Jumpstart with CPR- Tuesday, October 31st, 2023.

Goal setting is essential for any task or project, and it has a crucial role in Leveling Up your business. According to a February 2023 article in Indeed Career Guide maintains, "A race without a finish line sounds crazy, and yet this is what we do every time we don’t set clear goals." Whether it's your career, business or personal desire to Level Up, clear goals are required. It's in identifying the deficiencies and setting clear goals you take the necessary steps to eliminate the problem.

The first step is to self-reflect on your strategic goals. That is the pie-in-the-sky dream that you may make your reality by setting goals. Once you know that primary goal, formulate that goal into four to eight micro steps known as tactical goals. Following, you create additional ministeps or milestones where you can achieve the smaller goals first, then the larger goals. Smaller steps are more accessible to complete and, thus, more manageable to consider when executing. Continuing on this path is the first step to Level UP, which allows you to move towards your goal slowly.

For your consideration, Indeed (2023) process to setting goals: to LevelUp by setting goals:

1. Conduct a self-assessment

Before starting your goal-setting process, assess your interests, strengths, and improvement areas. Evaluating your interests allows you to build goals that drive you toward a happier and more fulfilling life.

2. Write down potential goals

Now that you know what your interests, strengths, and weaknesses are, you can write down the potential goals you hope to hit.

Consider setting aside 15 minutes to free-write goals or aspirations you'd like to achieve in the next few months or years. Once you have a large set of goals, review each one carefully. Assess.

3. Convert these objectives into SMART goals

Once you've determined which goals to set for yourself, you can convert them into SMART goals.

Your goal should be specific enough that it gives you a clear objective to work toward. The more specific your goal is, the easier it'll be to develop the steps needed to achieve it.

4. Build an action plan to meet these goals

Write your final goals down. This helps make them seem more real and allows you to visualize the goals you're working toward more clearly.

Your action plan can be the steps you'll take to reach your end goal. Breaking goals down into separate tasks and actionable steps helps them seem more accessible to accomplish and less intimidating.

5. Map out a timeline and set deadlines

If you have many goals you'd like to achieve, it's easier to build a timeline and map out your goals accordingly.

Building a timeline and giving yourself specific dates to hit helps build a sense of urgency.

6. Get started on your goals

Once you have all of your goals and tasks and their start and end dates mapped out, you can get started on working toward them. Follow each step you plan and try your best to stay on track.

7. Check in on your progress regularly

Since other life events can get in the way of reaching goals, it's essential to regularly check in to ensure you're still on track. Try to measure your progress regularly. It may be beneficial to schedule a weekly check-in to see how you're doing.

As we conclude, goal-setting allows you to identify a new objective, skill, or task you'd like to accomplish and establish a clear path using smaller tasks to help reach your end goal. Goals allow you to assess, plan, be clear of your needs, and stay on track. Goals also build confidence. With goals, your vision is now easily attainable. What are your goals?
