Consultant Proficiency Resources Wellness Wednesday: Power of the Tongue

The Power of the Tongue is like a knife. It can be used to help or hurt people. When you use your tongue to say kind things, it helps make people feel good; conversely, when you use your tongue to promote negativity, it demoralizes your team. Proverbs 18:21 states, "The tongue has the power of life and death.” Most of us who profess to be good people may have a general understanding of this powerful verse from the Old Testament. At this point, we might be mindful of what we speak in our lives and that of our family members; however, how many understand that it applies to everything created? Hence, the power of the tongue. As a small business owner, I understand that the power of the tongue pertains to all walks of life, professional and personal.

On this Wellness Wednesday, be sure to speak edifying words to your employees as a form of motivation. Note that the stakes are incredibly high. Do not wreak havoc on your business or allow your employees to wreak havoc on you. Because leadership starts with you, leading by example and rendering constructive feedback. At this point, we should know the difference between constructive feedback vs. critical. Even if the employee needs to be spoken to, do so wrapped in love. Reprimanding can be conducted in a manner that promotes positive net returns.

What things can you stomp out to promote a healthy work environment? The most basic steps include removing gossiping, alternate facts, and critical feedback, replacing them with constructive feedback, edifying words, and holding staff accountable to your daily formula. This Wellness Wednesday, know that your words can convey life or death to your operations. Speak life into your employees to obtain better results.

Warm Regards,

CeeCee
